Foci: Before the Reckoning hit, Lucas Maddison was the kind of mage forever destined to play second-string in the Order, behind a long line of powerful Archmasters and players in Major Houses. With the death of the Archmages and the Avatar Storm, however, he - like the rest of House Ex Miscellanea - have reexamined their role in the Order and Traditions at large and have begun to move forward into prominence Youngest child and only son of a game park warden and diamond mine heiress, Lucas' formative years in Cape Town, South Africa were largely pleasant despite his parents' divorce when he was eleven. He turned to photography as a teenager while he was recuperating from a sports injury and discovered he had some talent for it. As he grew into adulthood, he found himself increasingly dissatisfied and outraged by the culture of apartheid he was raised in, and after leaving the country midway through a university term to avoid compulsive military service, pursued a degree in fine arts at a university in Canada. He was inducted into the Order by a National Geographic Society photographer who recognized some hidden spark of inspiration in the his work, and took Lucas under his wing in both a mundane and magical sense. Initiatied into House Jerbiton, in the Hodgepodge, he Awakened on assignment in Northern Africa during a violent sandstorm. Not long after, photographing a rural town in Cornwall, he met a young British Army officer - perhaps by providence, also a mage of House Tytalus - who would later become his wife, muse, and strong grounding influence where he otherwise might have strayed from his path. And straight out of history.
Attached to Horizon's Circle of Artemis cabal in the stronghold's twilight hours, Lucas applied his gift for documenting the natural world to the realm's wildernss. His talent for Ars Conligationis and Ars Spirituum also made him a perfect candidate to stand as the Cabal's bonded Herald - one of the last to be Fatemarked by the Council of Nine before the Conflaguration.
Paradigm:
Status: As a Fatemarked and recognized Tradition Herald, Lucas enjoys access to any Tradition Chantry - including the occaisional holding normally unavailable to outsiders. He may call upon any member of the Traditions for aid or shelter if in need, but rarely does. His position grants him a small amount of diplomatic immunity, although he is certainly not immune to consequences of word or deed, or the odd cértamen challenge.
Avatar:
In his Seekings, Lucas wanders through windblown ruins in a vast desert - the architecture that survives is reminiscent of Moorish buildings in Spain and Northern Africa or the scant remains of Great Zimbabwe. Within the shattered remnants of the past, he searches for the elements needed to forge ahead into the unknown future.
El Ghibli is a wind that blows from the desert, hot and dry. It's the wind of the nomads, of travel and migration, the wind that accompanies and dries the errant word. The impalpable and whirling word, that is everywhere and nowhere, that is of all and of none, contaminated and shared.
Past Lives:
Sanctum: A large attic closet-converted-darkroom. Lucas has worked consistent magical effects (particularly Prime, Matter and the Grand Style rote) here long enough to establish it as a Sanctum.
Fame: Award-winning photojournalist for National Geographic magazine
Name: Lucas Arthur Groenveldt-Maddison
Theurgia Godform: MICHAEL, the Angel of Light - the Sun King, also known as Apollo or Ra, is a warrior of the light. Throwing his seven-shafted bow into a scene that is stumbling a long in the dark, Michael is the principle of godhood, holiness and divine intuition. The perfect form of idea, Michael is the guiding force of pure mind manifest. Wonder: Enchanted camera, functions in Umbral realms
