Background:
The Story of Donal's Glen is a long, sad, tragic, but true tale of how keeping your town away from the outside world can be hazardous to all. Especially to the Garou.
A long time ago when the ground still belonged to Gaia and the White Howlers were not yet a distant memory the Elders of the Sept at Donal's Glen strove to protect what was rightfully theirs and theirs alone. Tired of Silver Fangs and Howlers stealing their best sons and daughters and claiming them as their own the Sept hid their townsfolk and closed their caern off to the outsiders.
An entire town filled with people of noble chieftains blood and the blood of heroes only running through their veins. After quite a few generations there was no one left in the town that could not claim kinship to the garou, or to any of the noted heroes in Donal's Glen. Let's face it chicks love heroes...
The exploits of the garou from Donal's Glen were legendary, the stories that were told by Galliards across the globe sung of their bravery, acts of heroism, and even compassion. They could always be counted on to be loyal, faithful, and true. No one would deny what any of them had to say at any moot when one finally deemed it necessary to leave his home to fight and speak at another caern.
It happened every other generation.
I did say this was a tragedy however didn't I? I will get to that. Now it came to pass that the Alpha of one of the last generations of the town had a couple of daughters instead of a son. It angered him to no end that he was going to have to pass down his "throne" to someone who was not his direct heir.
Eventually he had to make his move and choose one of his Betas or even one who rivaled his authority as Alpha to marry his daughter. He chose the eldest son of one of his most trusted friends, someone whose blood was just as pure as his own, to marry his eldest daughter. Bernadette.
Bernadette Green was only twelve when she was told that she was going to be married off to Connor Patterson. Connor was nine years her senior and already on his way to being made Adren by the time they got married. He tried to be good to her in the first weeks of their marriage but it soon became clear to her that he wasn't going to try forever. She was scared and tried to run away a few times but both her father and Connor's wanted heirs, and she was a healthy, fertile, young girl.
Once they found out that she was going to run away they had Bernadette placed under house arrest until she gave Connor a healthy child. She miscarried twice, but eventually when she was barely fourteen she gave birth to a healthy daughter. Scared for her child, not wanting her own fate thrust upon anyone, especially when the kin-fetch told them she was not going to grow up to be Garou, Bernadette took off with the mewling infant.
Now you wonder how she got away with it this time? Because after all she was being held captive in her own home under guard? Well now I did say that Donal's Glen was a tragedy... I told you I would get back to that...
Under the cover of darkness Bernadette snuck out of her house with her baby and all of her cute little things that she needed to keep her calm in a bag. Nothing for herself, just for the child. However she might as well have just walked out the front door. There was a battle going on and all available Garou were out fighting to defend the town. Most of the other kinfolk were hiding in their homes. If Bernadette had not been so focused on her own child's safety she would have stopped and got her little sister Heather so that she wouldn't suffer either. A decision she would regret later when told the tale of the end...
So under the cover of the dark night Bernadette ran, eventually she found a ship that would take her to America. A scared fourteen-year-old girl with her infant daughter bound for greener pastures.
Once in the United States she began carving a life out for herself and her daughter Angelica. She worked hard to get her citizenship, and eventually a university degree in chemistry. She worked her way through school, so that she could pay for a babysitter for her little Angel. Even with all of her working hours she still had time to be Super-Mom to Angel. Going to all of her recitals, and baseball games, and bake sales. Eventually after working for "the man" for long enough she decided to go for her dream of owning her own business... But what does an Irish princess, who is a great cook; with a degree in chemistry choose to do with her life? She opened a bar with a microbrewery on site called the Split Crow.
It wasn't until much later that Bernadette discovered part of what had happened to Donal's Glen and why her husband never went after her that night or any night thereafter. The "Good Guys" lost.
