The Comyn Council is convened once a year at Midsummer in Thendara. Emergency sessions of the council may be called by any of the seven seat holders (the six Domain Heads plus the Lady of Arilinn). Such emergency sessions can be held at any of the Great Houses of the Six Domains and each house has a room specifically for that purpose.
The regular council session takes place in the Crystal Chamber, which has massive matrix dampers to prevent the abuse of laran to force decisions (mainly a concern of people scared of the Alton gift). The room contains a large wooden table with eight chairs, one for each of the Seven Domains and the Keeper of Arilinn Tower. The Aldaran seat sits unfilled and a broken sword is placed across it as a symbol of the rift between the Hellers domain and the rest of the Comyn. The chairs are heavy wood and feature a carved family crest on the backs.
When council is in session the dampers are maintained by a licensed matrix mechanic from Comyn Tower (or in the case of emergency non-Thendara sessions, the nearest Tower). The council is called by the Head of Hastur of Elhalyn, be it the King, Queen, or Prince/ss - Regent. He or she calls the council in the following order.
Hastur of Elhalyn
Hastur of Hastur
Ardais of Ardais
Aillard of Valeron
Alton of Armida
Ridenow of Serrais
If Aldaran of Aldaran were a council member he would be called between Alton and Ridenow. The Keeper of Arilinn enters at the time of the Head of the Domain to which she was born. Those owing allegiance to each Domain follow their liege lord and sit in galleries overlooking the table. The Towers have their own section and the Ridenow section has a special section for women so they can not be seen.
Any member of the Comyn may speak at council provided they have the acknowledgment of a member of the council. After a roll call is done Hastur of Elhalyn passes on chairmanship of the council to Hastur of Hastur who is Regent of the council.
The Aillard and Elhalyn Domains are the only ones that may have a permanent female head.
